I forgot to mention...

the unrelenting HEAT in Egypt's desert, and thought it was worthy of it's own post. The hotel in which we were stuck for the night was actually quite nice, though we clearly could not afford the A/C upgrade. Our traditional bedouin mud hut seemed rustic and charming, until we realized we were basically baking in a clay oven. Tiny windows allowed not a hint of circulation, and we could feel the sun's rays trapped and eminating from the floor and walls.

Trying to sleep in these conditions was unbearable. The only moments of relief came when I rolled to the side, revealing the utterly sweat-soaked sheets beneath me. The fan would cool the wet cloth, and I could roll back in for a few moments of cooled-sweat bliss. Ahhhh.
