Table for two with a view

It amazes me how many absolutely empty beaches you can find in the south island of New Zealand. Every person here could probably have their very own private little stretch of surf and sand if they wanted it. We constantly drive by them. We often picnic on them. And occasionally, we camp at them.

Off the snaking southbound highway, five miles down a gravel road, and BAM. A perfectly secluded chunk of oceanfront real estate, all ours for the evening.

Unfortunately, the weather decided not to cooperate with us. So we bundled up, cooked some chicken curry and watched downloaded episodes of Top Chef to the sound of raindrops falling on the roof and waves crashing on the shore.
