On Day 1, we hit the road under blue skies and chirping birds and rainbows. Our second attempt, however, met us with rain and wind and doom and gloom. We were Lake Tekapo bound, but decided to stop at a campsite halfway there so as not to waste a $30 night at a fancy lakefront campground in a storm.
What we found instead was a lush riverside campsite where we were the only two people for miles.
Incredibly peaceful and maybe slightly creepy, it was silent but for the babbling creek beside us. The grounds were surrounded by sheep and cows and greenery, and we fried bacon in the morning as the sun burned off the clouds. So far, this camper van thing is pretty fantastic.
